Full Description
This class will be comprised of officers who are authorized to carry optic and equipped patrol rifles. I want people who have minimal experience with their rifle. Experience such as meeting qualification minimum standards with hard sights, loading/unloading, malfunction clearance, and maybe some exposure to close quarter shooting drills.
It is O.K. for your student to arrive here with optic equipment that needs to be installed on the rifle. All students will be taught proper installation.
If your student arrives with just a hard sight rifle without optics, (optics meaning dot sign or scope), they will be sent bac. We will not be teaching hard sight techniques; however, we will provide all students with that type of basic reference material to take with them when they complete this course.
Snipers, swat Entry Team Members, Designated Marksmen and possibly some Patrol Rifle Instructors would not benefit from this class. Do not send us your ego or competition driven shooter. Their presence in this class could hinder the learning process for those who have minimal training and experience. If at any time it becomes apparent to the course instructors that you have sent this type of person, they will be sent home.
This course will not produce snipers, long range marksmen, door kickers or room clearers. It will instead produce a patrol officer who understands his individual capabilities and limitations with his patrol rifle, optics and ammunition.
This is not a run and gun, shoot for fun, lots of ammunition fired at large targets at close range type of event.
It is not an out to 600–1000-yard type of event.
We have other classes to suit those needs.
I want the type of officers that responded to the Mad Butcher Shooter in Fordyce, On June 21, 2024.
The Men and Women of Law Enforcement who did their jobs that day, did them very well. Not just those in gun fights, but everyone involved in that event in any capacity or from any location.
Through this event they developed valuable experience and insight. They developed idea, formed opinions, and learned lessons. It is almost certain that they critiqued themselves individually after the event.
We will attempt to learn from their perceptions, reactions and experiences. This will include their equipment advantages and limitations. We will consider what they believe would have helped them to better overcome the entirety of the challenges presented by the event. While the situation they found themselves facing that day is tragically too common. What is rare for us is the opportunity based on our proximity and relationships with those involved in that event, to hear firsthand what happened and what they experience.
I want the officers who attended this training to bring not only the patrol rifles they carry, but the ammunition and other equipment they would rely on at the onset of that type of situation.
When the student leaves this class, he should do so with a realistic evidence- based and proven understanding of just exactly what his rifle, ammunition, sighting system and his individual abilities can be expected to produce under good conditions.
We know that the street situations that call for this type of intervention will never rise to the level of good conditions and will often be at or approaching the worst of conditions.
I believe it is important that we achieve an understanding of our abilities and limitations prior to going into those situations, so that if the situation demands, we can respond appropriately.
