Classroom Supplies:

Copy of your Departmental Policy and Use of Force Policy. Digital Copies Permitted if uploaded to Electronic Classroom

Pocket notebook to be carried on your person for report taking.

Notebook for classroom notes.

Pencil (#2 lead). Ink pen (black ink).

Calculator (Scientific with square root function).

Compass (Draftsman type for drawing circles and arcs).

Dictionary.

Page Tabs (stick on for organization of traffic law book).

Traffic Template (Blue Blitz)


Duty Belt Equipment:

Service Handgun (9mm, .40 caliber, .45 caliber) exterior or safe action safety with hammer blocking mechanism; de-cocking mechanism; or full-time double-action.

Department approved duty belt and holster, leather or nylon. No cross draw or shoulder holsters.

Department approved duty under belt with keepers.

Spare magazines and carrier/pouch.

Handcuffs and handcuff carrier/pouch.

Flashlight and flashlight carrier/pouch.

Weapon mounted flashlight optional.

Baton (straight or expandable) with carrier/holder.


Personal Gear:

Padlock with two keys or combination lock.

Toiletries. (towel, wash cloth, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc.).

Sunscreen, insect repellent.

16-32 ounce clear plastic container for drinking water.

Weapons cleaning kit for the firearm they are issued.

Clothing:

At least three pairs of khaki colored pants that meet or are comparable to the following brands/styles:

1. 511 Tactical TDU pants. Taclite, Twill, or Ripstop styles are acceptable.
2. Propper F5520
3. Tru Spec BDU
4. First Tactical

The pants should be the appropriate length to be worn outside the boot and not be worn bloused at the top of the boots.

Rain gear.

Quality running shoes.

Gym clothes: Fluorescent yellow t-shirt / long sleeve shirt (Crew neck) & black shorts / sweatpants. Compression leggings / yoga pants must be covered by black shorts

Boots (Military style, black, lace-up combat-able to be polished).

Department issued uniform (complete) for class photograph, role-playing, and graduation.

Safety Equipment:

Department Approved / Issued Ballistic Vests SHALL be worn during all times, with the exception of physical fitness training.

Internal carriers with ALETA issued shirts worn over the ballistic vest.

OSHA approved traffic safety vest.

Hearing and eye protection for firing range, defensive tactics, practical and scenario training.

Protective athletic cup and protective athletic mouthpiece.

"Cat 7" or "Soft T Tourniquet", Training Orange.

Note: Successful completion of the physical training requirements is necessary for graduation the same as firearms qualification and passing weekly exams.

Sunday the First Day of the Academy:
Training will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
Orientation and paperwork will be explained and issued by ALETA staff. The classroom
etiquette sheet will explain the procedures not listed in the basic cadet handbook.

The online training is a requirement for graduation from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy.  Each student will be required to complete this training by a date determined by staff.  If the student does not complete the required training as required, they will be subject to corrective action up to and including removal from the academy.  It is highly recommended that the student completes the required training and present the certificates to staff on their first day.

Students attending the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy should provide copies of certificates of completion in the IS-700(NIMS) an Introduction, ICS-100 Incident Command System an Introduction, AND NHI Traffic Incident Management (TIMS), First Aid, and Basic Life Support according to Instructor given deadlines.

All federal, state, territorial, local, tribal, private sector and non-governmental personnel at the entry level, first line supervisor level, middle management level and command and general staff level of emergency management operations must complete the base line level training for certification.
Acceptable Certificates include:

Is-700 National Incident Management Systems (NIMS)
(or the IS-700.a Introduction)
AND
ICS-100 Incident Command System (or its equivalent of IS-100.b or IS-100.LEb) is acceptable for standards.

IS-100.LEb: Introduction to Incident Command System, for Law Enforcement. This course introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for lighter level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of ICS. It also explains the relationship between ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS). This course uses the same objectives and content as other ICS courses with law enforcement examples and exercises.

National Highway Institute: National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training – Web Based. The National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training was created by responders for responders. This course provides first responders a shared understanding of the requirements for safe, quick clearance of traffic incident scenes; prompt, reliable and open communication; and motorist and responder safeguards. First responders learn how to operate more efficiently and collectively. This training covers many TIM recommended procedures and techniques, including: TIM Fundamentals and Terminology, Notification and Scene Size-Up, Safe Vehicle Positioning, Scene Safety, Command Responsibilities, Traffic Management, Special Circumstances, Clearance and Termination, Telecommunicators.

The First Aid/CPR/AED practical will be Friday, week 1 of the Basic and both online courses must be completed no later than midnight, Wednesday of Week 1.


O.C. SPRAY INFORMATION

Basic Students are NOT REQUIRED to participate in OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) Pepper Spray training. It is now offered as an elective course.

The ALETA OC Pepper Spray ELECTIVE course requires the student to be exposed to OC Pepper Spray and its effects in a simulated confrontational situation. After the student is exposed, they will be required to carry out suspect control and officer survival actions. The primary focus of the course is officer survival training and conditioning.
